Now, she is unleashing superheroes around the world by way of real food and strong workouts with her online and onsite clients.
We were honored when Emily agreed to participate in a Joovv AMA. So without further ado, here are her answers to your questions…
What is the one fitness activity that you hate doing the most, but yields the best results?
I think this varies from person to person, but for me personally, I am a power athlete. I love jumping high, sprinting quickly, and lifting heavy for low reps. This means that doing the same thing over and over again is extremely hard for me. Stair-master, a 5k run, or even a long bike ride gets boring, but makes me a better, well-rounded athlete! On the other hand, if you do well with longer, single moves, I’m going to challenge you to try adding power into your protocol for better results!!
If I opened up your fridge right now, what would I see?
You would find 2 1/2 cases of La Croix, 2 pounds of grass-fed beef, ‘need-to-eat-soon’ brussels sprouts, almond milk, Primal Kitchen mayo, tequila, and dairy-free vegan cheese that I add to EVERYTHING.
What 3 supplements can you not afford to live without?
I notice the most difference in my energy, sleep, and mood by taking my Vitamin D3, my B-vitamins, and resveratrol (turmeric is always there too).
When you think about all of the people that have successfully completed your EmFit Challenge, what 2-3 things have surprised (or inspired) you the most?
I know many people join with the sole intention to lose weight without recognizing that there is more than just the number on the scale. What I love seeing is the mental transformation that happens while they learn about their body - when they start to listen to their body - and realize this whole "HEALTH" thing is so much more than that number. These kind of testimonials blow me away. I’m amazed, that somehow, I can teach that “BIG PICTURE” to someone in just 3 weeks. That's what I crave with my program.
You taught a class on adrenals and pelvic positioning at the 2017 Paleo f(x) conference. Can you provide some cliff notes for those of us that didn't attend?
Adrenal health is a buzzing word. What does adrenal dysfunction mean and how can we prevent it or heal from it? Dysfunctional adrenals can lead to stubborn weight loss, slow muscle definition, constant injury, poor sleep, and just plain exhaustion. What many people don't realize, is that it also can cause your glutes and pelvic floor to function improperly. If you are injured in your lower back, hips, or in the middle of your knee, that can be a sign of adrenal issues.
To heal, here are my cliff-notes:
- Control blood sugar by changing your diet and fuel source.
- Find and heal any stressors in your body, whether that is food intolerances, leaky gut, or even insulin resistance.
- Use supplements, oils, flower essences and caffeine monitoring to give your body the tools it needs to heal.
What is something you enjoy that most people would be surprised to learn?
My motorcycle is my non-gym therapy. I have been into archery since I was 10 and I love turbulence on airplanes!
What person(s) of influence are you closely following right now?
Currently, I have been following the journey of many CrossFit Games athletes who are competing this weekend for the title of the Fittest. But, as of right now, I am actually in a place of realizing the more I look outside of my lane, the more frustrated I become. I love learning from people and listening to many podcasts, but outside of education, I try to stay in my lane and keep my eyes ahead!
If you could put a billboard anywhere, what would it say and where would you put it?
BE MORE. A billboard (anywhere and everywhere) full of ladies shaped in every beautiful way - sweating, working hard, flawed and all. Off their phones, giving it their all, BEING FEARLESS. I want to inspire people to put their phone down and do something that scares the shit out of them.
