Most of the industry still utilizes 30 year old LED packages with less efficient materials. This requires a higher wattage rating, resulting in unnecessary heat buildup. Joovv products are intended to be used in home or commercial environments. Within these environments, it is crucial that a medical device performs as intended and is protected against electromagnetic interference. Additionally, it is imperative the medical device doesn’t cause interference itself. EMC is the abbreviation for Electromagnetic Compatibility and it describes how well a device functions in an electromagnetic environment. Joovv devices are fully compliant to EMC standards for Medical Electrical Equipment.

Ingress Protection

Ingress Protection (IP) is how well a device performs while keeping out unwanted dirt and moisture. The build of the enclosure is critical in protecting the delicate internal components that can be damaged from intrusion. Devices that meet IP ratings have greater durability than devices that do not, improving the longevity and performance throughout the life of the product. The Joovv Solo 3.0 and Mini 3.0 carry an IP rating of 21, resulting in protection against condensation and openings greater than 12 millimeters.

Double Insulated Class ll

The Class II classification means that there are two layers of insulation, or a single layer of reinforced insulation, between the user and the internal current carrying components in the device or power adapter. Class II is common amongst products that come in contact with the user (e.g. TVs, Laptops, Phone chargers etc.). Class II products only have (2 prongs) on the power plug because they don’t require a ground connection to protect the user from electrical shock. The reason for this is the power supply inside is grounded within the product’s enclosure. The medical standard IEC 60601-1-11 requires that all medical devices for home use that are not permanently installed by licensed personnel be Class II. The Joovv Solo 3.0 and Mini 3.0 are Class II protected from electric shock for this reason.

Devices that meet IP ratings have greater durability than devices that do not, improving the longevity and performance throughout the life of the product. The Joovv Go 2.0 has an IP rating of 22, resulting in protection against openings greater than 12 millimeters. This rating also includes protection from water spray less than 15 degrees from vertical.

Battery Safety

The Go 2.0 uses an internal rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. The battery has been tested and conforms to IEC 62133-2. If you're not familiar with it, IEC 62133 is a widely recognized safety standard used by manufacturers, regulators, and other stakeholders in the Lithium-ion battery industry as a benchmark for battery safety. Compliance with the standard helps to ensure that Lithium-ion batteries are safe and reliable for use in a wide range of applications, including medical devices. The standard helps assure the highest electrical safety by focusing on common issues such as overcharging, over-discharging, short-circuiting, and thermal runaway, which can all potentially cause safety hazards if not properly managed. Paired with a medical grade power adapter there is no safer power source.

No. Measuring individual parameters such as electromagnetic fields (EMF) or light output (irradiance) is not the same as comprehensive device safety testing.EMF and irradiance measurements can provide limited information about specific characteristics of a product, but they do not evaluate whether a device meets medical electrical equipment safety standards. This includes testing aligned with IEC 60601-1-11 requirements for home healthcare environments.This approach helps ensure that Joovv devices are suitable for safe use in homes as well as professional and commercial environments when used as directed.

FDA registration means a company and/or product is listed with the FDA. This simply means that the FDA has been made aware of a company and its product. It does not and should not imply that since the product is registered, it is now safe for use and can be considered a medical device. To be considered a Medical-grade device, the device must perform to its intended use and meet the applicable safety standards for that use. This includes testing to IEC 60601-1 and many other medical safety standards. More importantly this includes testing performed by a third-party Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL). Lastly the device should be manufactured in a controlled environment following a medical Quality Control System (QMS).
