With three different size options and three different wavelength configurations, this is one of our most popular questions. This guide will help you make an informed decision.

Without getting too far into the weeds, our cells are essentially given an energy boost when they absorb light, specifically red wavelengths at 660 nm and near infrared wavelengths at 850 nm. Studies have shown this energy boost enables our cells to perform critical functions at a higher level, including ATP production, reducing oxidative stress, removing waste and toxins, collagen production, and tissue repair. If you want to learn more about the science of light therapy, this is a very good place to start.

Both red light at 660 nm and near infrared light at 850 nm have been proven to enhance cellular function.  The main difference is that red light at 660 nm light is readily absorbed by skin tissue leading to improved skin health and collagen production.  Near infrared light at 850 nm is invisible to the human eye and penetrates into deeper tissue, leading to benefits like increased muscle recovery and reduced joint pain.

For optimal cellular health, including deep tissue, we recommend a 10-minute session for each treatment area at 6-8" away from the device.  For skin health benefits alone, just 5 minutes is required at 10-12" away from the Joovv Light.

While we know that red and near infrared light provide cellular health benefits, the time required will depend on your desired health outcomes.  Most people will see benefits like increased muscle recovery, pain relief, and wound healing very quickly. However, enhanced skin health, like reducing wrinkles and scars, can sometimes take 8-12 weeks.

Our light threapy devices are low-risk, general wellness products that do not require FDA clearance, in accordance with the “General Wellness: Policy on Low Risk Devices” draft released January 20, 2015. 

No, all Joovv Light models run on traditional 110V/220V circuits.  They ship with a 3-prong, 3-meter (9.8 feet) power cord.  Also, if you're outside the United States, we routinely ship our devices internationally and they function just fine.  The only caveat is that you may need an adaptor for the 3-prong power cord.  If this is the case, just let us know and we'll provide one for you.

Yes, a big difference!  LED’s offer the most effective technology for controlling the wavelength and direction of the light.  In addition, they allow for the production of high intensity output with minimal heat. They're incredibly efficient!

Near infrared light is invisible to the naked eye. The combo models have panels with both red (660 nm) and NIR (850 nm) LEDs powered by the same supply.  So, if there was ever an issue, the red LEDs would be affected as well.  

Our LEDs have a lifespan of 50,000 hours!  That's about 34 years if you used a Joovv Light 4 hours every day.  It's safe to say they will last a long time!

The temperature of the Joovv Light varies slightly depending on the wavelength configuration. But many of our customers have compared the heat to a nice, warm, 75-degree day.  Even though the Joovv Light delivers over 100 mW/cm(2) of power, because of the built-in cooling fans, they are incredibly efficient and produce very little heat.

No, not at all.  Using the Joovv Light will not expose you to damaging UV rays.  But you also won't get a tan either.  However, there are many great health benefits from using red light therapy.

You can wear clothes.  Or you can be nude.  Whatever you prefer.  Just make sure the area of your body you wish to be treated is fully exposed to the light.

No, you don't.  In fact, there have been a number of published clinical studies that demonstrate red and near infrared light is beneficial for your eyes.

No.  But using lotion won't negatively impact the benefits of light therapy either.  

We're not physicians and we don't play them on T.V.  But if you use medications such as Tetracycline, Digoxin, and photosensitizing drugs (e.g. tranquilizers, sulfa drugs, oral anti-diabetic drugs, etc.), it's probably a good idea to consult with your physician before using the Joovv Light.  

Yes, makeup can be worn and should not affect the benefits of red light therapy.
