Joovv AMA with Pete Evans

Pete Evans is an extremely talented and world renowned chef & nutritionist.  And that's putting it lightly.  This bad-ass Australian restaurateur has opened six award-winning restaurants, including Hugos, which won “best pizza in the world” at the American Pizza Challenge in New York City.  Pete has also written several best-selling cookbooks, which have become immensely popular around the world.  As if that’s not impressive enough, “My Kitchen Rules”, one of his numerous television shows, attracted an audience of more than 3.5 million.  Pretty sweet, right?

We were honored when Pete agreed to participate in a Joovv AMA.  So without further ado, here are Pete's answers to your questions...

One of my favorite recipes of yours is the pan-fried fish with pico de gallo salsa.  I'm going to try out your option to use steak instead.  What cut of beef do you recommend?  And how important is it to get grass-fed beef?

I would choose beef liver or heart to go with it as this is these are the most nutrient- dense parts of the animal and the ones that will give you optimal nutritional support.  Other cuts you could look at would be normal steak cuts - or you could slow cook cheeks, tail, short rib, shin etc. Or even do a tartare with the fillet or heart with the same dressing.  Grass-fed and grass-finished organic beef or lamb is where it is at - the health of the animal you eat directly correlates with your own health.

What person(s) of influence are you following right now?

Dr. David Perlmutter, Dr. Kelly Brogran, and Dr. Datis Kharrazian are trailblazing in the fields of brain and gut health.  And of course, anything that Nora Gedgaudas turns her attention to is sure to be groundbreaking.  Also, Joel Salatin is doing amazing things on a holistic farming front.

I know your restaurants have received numerous awards.  It's probably like asking someone which child is their favorite, but which restaurant do you enjoy eating at the most and why?

I actually love cooking at home with my wife and kids as we get to have quality time together and create memories with one another.

Have you ever used red light therapy?  If so, did you see any results?

I haven’t yet, but looking forward to giving it a go.  I know my wife Nicola has used it and loves the benefits.

What's one bad habit you're trying to get rid of?

I don’t really have any bad habits that come to mind.  I love to spend time with my family, which is where most of my attention goes (apart from work).

I know that you like to surf and it's something I have always wanted to try.  Can you recommend 2-3 things I should do to help me shorten the learning time?

Learn some simple, but effective breathing techniques.  Learn to watch the waves and how surfers position themselves in the lineup.  Have a lesson from a professional as you would if you wanted to learn how to ski.

What is your favorite purchase from 2016 that's less than $1k?

I don’t think anyone could go past organic nutrient dense food!  

What is something you enjoy that most people would be surprised to learn?

I am a lover of classical music - Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, etc.  I find it can chill me out and also invigorate me at times too.

If you could put a billboard anywhere, what would it say and where would you put it?

You are what you absorb!  Choose wisely in all facets of your life!
