We were honored when Lola agreed to participate in a Joovv AMA. So without further ado, here are her answers to your questions…
If I opened up your fridge right now, what would I see?
Lots! Zoodles (that’s noodles made from zucchinis), flathead ready to be cooked for tomorrow's lunch, I’m going through a mustard phase so I have three different types of mustard in the fridge at the moment. There's also some raw chocolate and a few raw caramel slices (I have a sweet tooth so I always try to have healthy alternatives on hand). Plus, there’s almond milk, apple cider vinegar and I keep my fish oils in the fridge too!
What’s your favorite healthy, high-fat meal?
Hmm...I love cooking salmon up super crispy in coconut oil. I also love raw treats and bone broth with the fat (I don’t like skimming it off the top - bring it on, so much nutrition and flavor!). I also don't go a day without avocado, so I’ve got to say a good guacamole is on the list as well!
What person(s) of influence are you closely following right now?
Like healthy ones? Well, I love reading Davis Gillespie’s health books, Sarah Wilson has brilliant books too. I’m currently reading Rens Kroes' book and just got Rachel Finch’s new recipe book. I love following Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) on Instagram and Snapchat - he’s pretty funny and inspiring at the same time!
What is something you like that most people would be surprised to learn?
Well, I always say I’d love to live in a treehouse one day, and most people smile, have a little giggle and say that’s really sweet and then they realize I’m being serious. I’d love to build my very own treehouse and live in it one day!
If you had to teach a class on one thing, what would you teach?
To be honest, probably just honoring yourself and figuring out what makes you feel happy. Because I think it’s really hard to make healthy choices when we’re not happy. I think when we feel happy, we live happy - and in turn - nourish our bodies as well.
Have you used red light therapy? If so, what type of results did you experience?
I’ve only had light therapy done on my face and I find it really relaxing. It’s said to help with collagen production. I know I feel glowy and fresh whenever I leave a treatment.
What’s your favorite quote? The one that you always go back to when you need some inspiration?
When I was doing my yoga teacher training, Chris Wilson, the lovely human who was teaching me noticed I was really struggling to remember the sequence and saying all the cues. And he said in front of the class, “Guys, you’ve got to show up and suck, before you can show up and shine.” I wrote that quote on my yoga mat so I see it every single day and it reminds me to stick to it even when things get challenging.
If you had to pick one recipe to make for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Can I have one sweet and one savory?! Crispy salmon nuggets, cooked in coconut oil and then broken into little chunks. Then you let them crisp right up and they become little nuggets. I love it served with crispy kale chips and mashed avo! Then I top with fresh lime juice and chopped-up chilies! And for sweet, it would have to be paleo pancakes (banana, blueberry and macadamia nut is my favorite combo) topped with coconut ice-cream, maple syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon! So good!
