Without further ado, let's get Joovvin' with Tony...
What is the one fitness activity that you hate doing the most, but yields the best results?
I’m currently into climbing mountains. I trudged up the highest mountain in North Africa. It definitely doesn’t seem like much fun - struggling up a mountain at 4 in the morning wearing head torches, crampons, and freezing my nuts off. But after the intense challenge, we got to the top and watched the sunrise in the distance, and all the pain was forgotten.
You’ve had the opportunity to use light therapy (photobiomodulation) for a few months now. What are a few of the benefits you have personally experienced?
Funny enough, it feels a little like sunbathing. It’s lovely to have that bright light in the mornings, especially since it’s so dark here in London at the moment. My girlfriend loves it for her skin, and never misses a session. I think she mainly likes coming to stay at my flat because of the Joovv, not because of me!
You are loved by many for your soothing voice and ability to help others relax. Can you give us 2-3 of your favorite tips to help keep stress to a minimum?
Meditation in front of the Joovv, actually. (God, I’m so on brand - it must be because you said those nice things about my voice!)
Joking aside, when switching off technology, I love to play chess. I’m not very good, but I absolutely love it. (Feel free to challenge me to an online game!)
I recently stumbled across your podcast and I’m so happy I did. Like thousands of other people, I struggle with insomnia. What is your favorite hack to maximize your sleep?
I make myself a ‘sleep shot’ every evening. It includes some liquid magnesium, liquid ashwagandha, and a tiny bit of water. It tastes disgusting, but does the job.
I really enjoy listening to your podcast, Tony. You always leave me feeling encouraged and uplifted. I’m curious, what are 1-2 sources you turn to when looking for encouragement? The one or two that you always go back to when you need some inspiration?
Well, thank you for listening! As well as being a keen podcaster with Zestology, I love listening to others. My favorite podcasts are not necessarily motivational, but funny, which is always a good way to lift my mood and leave me feeling more encouraged. I love Russell Brand’s Radio X podcast, although here in the UK, we say he’s very ‘marmite’, which means you either love him or hate him.
You talk about some pretty cool gadgets on the Zestology podcast. What’s your favorite gadget or "thing" that you’ve purchased over the last year for less than $1k?
Hands down the Berkey Water Filter. It’s a fantastic bit of kit that takes out all the nasties found in tap water, including chlorine, ammonia and chloramine, but leaves all the good stuff in. They even publish their research online. I’ve recommended it to so many people, I really should become a salesman for Berkey!
I recommend your book “Confidence in a Minute” to countless friends. What is the one book that you’ve recommended the most?
I love Josh Waitzkin’s The Art Of Learning. A great story which involves chess, which is one of my favorite ways to relax (see my answer above).
What 3 supplements can you not afford to live without?
I play with lots of supplements. But the real staples are Magnesium, Vitamin C (for when I need it), and Colostrum (in the springtime only because it helps me with hay fever).
Thanks again to Tony Wrighton for Joovvin' with us! Also, don't forget to check out the Zestology Podcast when you get a chance. Tony hosts a phenomenal show, which is equal parts entertaining and educational!
