We've been fans of Fit Bottomed Girls for several years now. Their story is great. But their message is even better. Genuine, down-to-earth advice for real women (and even guys) that are interested in improving their health and lives through physical activity and healthy eating. Plus, the Fit Bottomed Girls are super fun too!
Jenn Walters, Cofounder of Fit Bottomed Girls, was kind enough to participate in a Joovv AMA. But before we get to the questions that you submitted, here's a little more background on Jenn. As I just mentioned, she's the Cofounder of Fit Bottomed Girls as well as Fit Bottomed Zen. Jenn is also the coauthor of The Fit Bottomed Girls Anti-Diet (highly recommend!). She's an ACE-certified personal trainer, health coach, and an AFAA-certified group exercise instructor. Between running uber successful websites and writing books, Jenn loves HIIT workouts with her husband, making green smoothies, and snuggling with her daughter.
Okay, so on to your questions for Jenn:
What’s your favorite quote? The one that you always go back to when you need some inspiration?
It's funny, but I borrow it from Nike: Just do it. A lot of times you just have to stop the voices in your head and, well, JUST DO IT. Whether that's a workout, trying something new for the first time or simply getting out of your comfort zone with a new work project. It works for me!
Do you get 8 hours of sleep?
Ha! I have a 14-month old. What do you think??? But, seriously, she is awesome and most nights I get 7 or so hours of sleep, which leaves me feeling pretty rested most days.
I know you’re a big fan of HIIT. What’s the one exercise activity that you hate doing the most, but yields the best results?
Burpees. I hated them so much, in fact, that I made a point to learn to love them. More on that here. They really are crazy effective and now I embrace what a challenge they are! :)
What 's your favorite 90’s tune? What about Erin and Kristen? (note from Liz: Erin Whitehead and Kristen Seymour are business partners with Jenn)
SUCH a hard question. My fave 90s tune has to be 'Just a Girl' by No Doubt. Erin's is 'My Name Is Jonas' by Weezer. And Kristen's is 'Whoomp There It' Is by Tag Team.
Have you ever used red light therapy? Did it work?
Never really have. Super curious about it!
If I opened up your fridge right now, what would I see?
A bunch of leftovers! There's a frittata in there, a big ol' salad just waiting for me to eat, and some grilled bison sausage and veggies from the weekend. Also, plenty of spinach, eggs, cottage cheese, milk, almond milk and an embarrassing number of condiments (I have a hot sauce problem).
What person (or people) of influence are you closely following right now?
There are so many great people to follow on the internet and on social media right now. We're huge fans of Danielle LaPorte -- love how authentic and soulful she is. Also love following BexLife. She's the real deal and hilarious. She has great tips -- and she owns goats!
A day in the life of Jenn Walters...what does that look like?
Depends on the day. I work from home Tuesday through Thursday on all things fit bottomed, but Friday through Monday, I'm home being a mom to my daughter. It's a schedule I'm really grateful to be able to have. My work days are seriously intense -- I'm basically packing 40 hours of work into three days -- and by the end of them, I'm pretty spent creatively. When Friday rolls around though, it's nice to just slow down and play with my daughter. We go to the library, to the zoo, to the park, to the gym (she loves going to the gym with me), on walks, etc. She really helps me to slow down and just be in the moment. Every day though usually involves coffee, a salad, some type of activity (be it gym or walking or a home workout), a piece of chocolate and a glass of wine.
What is the one book that you’ve recommended the most?
We think our book, The Fit Bottomed Girls Anti-Diet is kind of the best thing ever. ;)
What 3 supplements can you not afford to live without?
A prenatal/women's multivitamin, my omega-3s and probiotics. Every day.
If you could put up a billboard anywhere, what would it say and where would you put it?
"You're more than the number on the scale." I'd put that up in Times Square for the most people to see. :)
