Joovv AMA with Jacob Nawrocki of Operation Self Reset

We were honored when Jacob agreed to participate in a Joovv AMA.  So without further ado, here are his answers to your questions…

What is the one fitness activity that you hate doing the most, but yields the best results?

Performing a four-minute plank is the best and worst fitness activity! Planking is a such a good workout.  It’s easy to do, requires no equipment, and yields great results. Let me be clear: Planks are designed to strengthen your core, but it also does wonders for your lower back, shoulder, chest, and mental fitness ability. 

If you want to increase your mental toughness, I would suggest you try to hold a plank for four, five, or even six minutes. If you can do that, then push yourself to go for 10 minutes. To stay committed, focused, and reduce the negative chatter in your head to give up is a testament to anyone’s mental conditioning. 

A strong mind will create a strong body. To create both, start planking and keep pushing yourself beyond what your mind tells you what you can do.

If I opened up your fridge right now, what would I see?

The food in my fridge is good quality food that did not cost an arm and a leg. I have eggs, almond milk, various kinds of mustard (love it!), and left-over dinner. 

Being a firefighter, I make large batches of food at work and home. If you set up your kitchen to have nothing but good, clean food - your health will win.

What three supplements can you not live without? 

  • Protein: Vega Protein is my number one source of good protein.
  • Good Oils: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Omega 3 Oils, Udo’s Oil. I can’t get enough of it!
  • Vitamin D: Living in the Midwest, our winters are long and the sun rarely comes out. Vitamin D is a must-have to keep my mood stable during these long months.

What person(s) of influence are you closely following right now?

All great information comes from experience or is passed down through the years. Most of what you and I need right now in our life is not what is trending – it’s old-school ideas that keep us moving in the right direction. I have to give credit to Zig Ziglar, one of the best that I fall back on, for reminding me of the things that I am not doing. The person who I believe is creating the biggest impact is right now is Garret J. Whyte. He is the creator of Warrior and his stuff is spot on if you have a wife, kids, and business!

Have you used red light therapy?  If so, did it work?

I have not it yet, but I would like to try it soon. I am constantly researching all the ways that will help me take care of myself. As a firefighter, I get banged up pretty good. If there is something that works, then I will give it a go.

If you could put a billboard anywhere, what would it say and where would you put it?

“Stop Letting Your Feelings Run Your Life!” Most of us let our feelings dictate how we live. Not everyone enjoys eating healthy, working out, reading, or doing anything outside of their comfort box. If you look at the people who make the biggest improvements in their health, business, and life, they put in the work. Do what is needed to succeed without having your feelings get in the way of your greatness!

What's one bad habit you're trying to get rid of?

Reduce negative self-talk! We all have habits that hold us back from living our ideal life, but for me, reducing negative self-talk is my number one. It’s also the hardest to break because it has been a battle for me for the last 32 years. 

We all have this voice that tries to keep our mind, body, and well-being safe from all kinds of harm. The people that push past that voice are the movers and shakers of the world. These types of people are the ones we look at and go, “Wow! They are unbelievable. They did such a great thing!” 

This is why the people at the top are highly praised, and it’s a small group. They pushed past that negative voice and kept moving forward.

I feel I have done a great job moving past the voice of reason, but I can get better. If I flip the script on that voice and have it work with me instead of against me, I will become the person I desire, dream, and want to embrace. To break this habit, all I can do is to be mindful of what I am thinking and catch that voice sooner rather than later.

What’s the favorite thing you’ve bought this year?

I just bought a new 2016 Ford F150. I haven’t had a new car in 15 years, so this was a much-needed investment. I have always been a truck guy and always will be. I own lots of real estate properties around Milwaukee, and I needed a truck.  It’s a pretty truck, but I already have dents and scratches from a few remodels I have completed.

The biggest upgrade it has is a bluetooth stereo. As a big podcast and audiobook listener, having the ability to jump in my car and have my phone sync to my car automatically is awesome! You don’t have to have a Bluetooth stereo! If you can turn your car into a mobile information vehicle, you’re winning.

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life (besides money), what would it be?

Belief!  Belief is something that when you have it, it can take you to the next universe. We have seen this in action: Elon Musk, the brains behind Tesla and Space X, has taken belief to the next level. He and his company, Space X, are trying to be the first to allow for a human to land on Mars. 

He has the belief needed to see this project from start to finish. If belief was guaranteed, most of us would be achievement individuals. Everything that we would want, we would get because we have the belief that we can get it. In the world today, most of us have ideas, but the belief muscle is lacking. When we don’t have belief, it’s impossible to see how we can get anything. 

If you have belief, it will last through the difficult moments and hard conversations It will stick with you when you fail and help you thrive.

I want to level up my game! Can you recommend 2-3 things I should do right now? 

  1. Get clear!  Most of us want something in life right now. You may want better health, stronger relationships, more money, a bigger house, or maybe you just want more time to read this website. No matter what your want is, you must be clear on it. If you’re one of the people that wants everything, well then, it’s possible. It’s not an easy road, but you can have it all!
  2. Understand who you need to be! If you know what you want, then you must identify who you need to become to get that want. It’s easy to say, but I challenge you to write down who do you need to be to get what you want. Did you hear me correctly? You must write it down! Too often we keep a mental journal in our mind and that doesn’t work. Your mental journal is a process of being lazy and allowing you to think of something instead of actually planning it out. Journaling is one of the most important things you can do in your life. It’s a way to get clear, get calm, and get crazy dedicated. When you have the who, you will only then get the want.
  3. Live in the who. Usually, for the third step, people would suggest to take massive action. Action is great, but action without a plan creates epic failure. I would like you to use that action energy to make sure you take the needed steps to get you to live in the who.

Currently, you have bad habits, bad beliefs, and bad routines that mess with your ability to go and serve the world. I would like to suggest that you make the needed improvements to live like who you should be. Change is super hard!  Have you ever tried to wake up 10 min earlier? That is a feat of strength – unless you’re getting up to go on vacation, then we all pop out of bed. 

These three steps are not going to wow you, but if you actually do it, your life will be wowed!
