Joovv AMA with John Roman Romaniello

I first came across John "Roman" Romaniello when I read about the 7-figure book deal he signed as a first-time author.  I then consumed that same book, Man 2.0 Engineering the Alpha, in record time.  And ever since, I've been following this gent most people call Roman.  So who is he?  Let me explain...

John Romaniello is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and New York Times bestselling author. An advisor to nearly a dozen fitness and tech companies, Romaniello has written for a myriad of publications covering topics ranging from insulin sensitivity to investment strategy, and has been featured in dozens of publications and on a number of TV shows. He loves the NY Jets, unicorns, sarcasm, and writing about himself in the third person.  Roman runs Roman Fitness Systems and is the lead fitness advisor to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

We were honored when Roman agreed to participate in a Joovv AMA.  So without further ado, here are Roman's answers to your questions...

What is the one fitness activity that you hate doing, but yields the best results?

The Y-Press. It's a variation of the overhead press that ends up with you looking like a Y—hence the name. It puts your arms in a mechanically weaker position and it drives me crazy because I vainly hate having to drastically lower the weight of the dumbbells in order to do it. It’s fantastic for shoulder stability in all of your overhead lifts, which can help increase muscular development overall—in the long run.

If I opened up your fridge right now, what would I see?

Pre-cooked chicken from Trader Joe's. I try to make sticking to my macros as easy as possible.

What 3 supplements can you not afford to live without?

Athletic Greens, Fish Oil, and Melatonin.

Have you used red light therapy?  If so, did it work?

I have not.

Do you get 8 hours of sleep per night?

Yup. Missing out on sleep is one of the biggest detriments to my clients reaching their goals.

What is something that you enjoy (or like) that most people would be surprised to learn?

I love Cher.

I’ve heard you reference your “chubby” childhood.  My 12-yr old son is lazy and overweight and I’m struggling to motivate him. What 2-3 things would you tell him?

I would tell you (the parent) to find family activities that involve physical activity (i.e. hiking, etc) and I would enroll him some kind of recreational sports team. And if he doesn't like it, that's OK. It's not your job to always be liked.

It seems like you’re able to get way more sh*t done than the average person.  Do you have a favorite productivity tool or system that you follow?

I wish I did, and if you have one please let me know. I procrastinate on everything and only start at the last minute. It's something I'm working on.

What person(s) of influence are you closely following right now?

Elon Musk is a godsend.

If you could put a billboard anywhere, what would it say and where would you put it?

I want to level-up my all-around game.  Can you recommend 2-3 things I should do right now?

Evaluate the people in your life. You have good friends and not-so-good friends. Spend more time with the good ones.

And if you want to make gains in the gym, do a training program. I would say to check mine out, but it can be any program. And make sure you're eating enough.
